West Ham’s Manuel Lanzini to learn fate on diving charge on Tuesday afternoon
West Ham’s Manuel Lanzini will find out this afternoon whether he can face Arsenal in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night after he was charged for diving.
An independent commission is expected to review his case after he was charged by the Football Association on Monday for alleged simulation during the club’s 3-0 win against Stoke on Saturday.
Sky Sports News understand West Ham have contested the charge.
A three-person panel met on Monday and unanimously agreed Lanzini had deceived the match official when winning a penalty in the 18th minute at the bet365 Stadium, having gone to ground following a challenge from Stoke defender Erik Pieters.
West Ham travel to the Emirates on Tuesday night with a place in the Carabao Cup semi-finals on the line.
Hammers boss David Moyes said he was „surprised“ that Lanzini had been charged.
He said: „I’m a bit surprised. The referee was 10 yards from the ball, nothing was blocking his vision, the defender made a challenge for the ball and didn’t get it. So, I think they’re going against the referee.
„The Goals on Sunday panel all said it was a definite penalty.
„I think it’s strange that three people on Sunday thought it was a penalty and three people today think it probably wasn’t.“
Lanzini is just the second Premier League player to be charged this season for simulation.
Everton forward Oumar Niasse was banned for two matches after successfully deceiving match officials to win a penalty in his side’s 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace in November.
