Jadon Sancho says Gareth Southgate told him to keep up the hard work
Jadon Sancho is taking advice from England manager Gareth Southgate on board after he told him to keep up the good work.
Sancho has been included in the senior England squad for their upcoming matches against Croatia and Spain in the UEFA Nations League, live on Sky Sports Football.
He is the first player born in this century to feature in an England squad.
When asked what Southgate said to him when he was called up, Sancho said: „He congratulated me and said he thinks I have been playing well in the Bundesliga and starting two games in the Champions League
„He felt that was a big thing for me, in terms of how well I managed it on the pitch and off it. He was just saying, ‘keep up the hard work and we will see what happens next’.“
He revealed he was „surprised“ by the call-up but insisted he would not let the pressure get to him.
The 18-year-old, who made his first senior start for Dortmund in the 4-3 win over Augsburg as he picked up his sixth assist of the season, is not looking too far into the future at present.
„Just try and continue to be the best I can be,“ he said. „Work hard and never give up and be determined. Later on in my career you never know what can happen, so I just have to wait and see.“
