Sunday’s Liverpool transfer news and rumours: Michael Keane, Iker Casillas, Danny Ward
All the latest Liverpool transfer news and rumours from across the British and European press on Sunday, May 28.
Liverpool could be poised to miss out on Burnley defender Michael Keane if Manchester United can tie up a quick deal for the player.
According to a report in the Mail on Sunday, Jose Mourinho has urged vice-chairman Ed Woodward to re-sign their former player imminently – meaning Liverpool would need to focus on their primary defensive target, Virgil van Dijk.
The Liverpool Echo carries an interview with Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet in which he admits he has heard rumours of Iker Casillas, Joe Hart and Marc-Andre Ter Stegen moving to Anfield.
The Belgian, however, insists he is now strong enough to fight for his place and prove himself as the club’s No 1 goalkeeper.
He said: „As a goalkeeper, you are on your own. Even now, after a solid season, the rumours are starting again with (Iker) Casillas.“
He added: „The last few months have given me a lot more settlement here. I understand things now and I can deal with it. I know all those names are going to be flying around, like Casillas, Joe Hart and (Marc-Andre) Ter Stegen.“
Fellow Liverpool goalkeeper Danny Ward is also being linked away from Anfield on Sunday, as Huddersfield are reportedly keen on extending his loan deal for another season.
The Mail claims Huddersfield boss David Wagner wants the 24-year-old to stay, especially if they win promotion to the Premier League in Monday’s Championship play-off final.
Brazil manager Tite, meanwhile, claims Philippe Coutinho would be an „ideal“ signing for Barcelona after they announce their new manager next week.
He told Sport: „He is the ideal player for Barca. I don’t want to be pretentious and give an opinion on Barca, but who wouldn’t want a player like Coutinho?
„That magic, that capacity to invent and create something, that change of rhythm, the way he builds play… He’s an articulator. He has his ideal position in both a 4-3-3 and a 4-4-2, as seen at Liverpool, where he supplies Mane and Firmino and creates alongside Lallana. I like players who have those qualities.“
