Huddersfield coach Jan Siewert given selection boost ahead of Chelsea clash
Jan Siewert says the return of Aaron Mooy and Philip Billing and the arrival of Karlan Grant will give Huddersfield a boost against Chelsea this weekend.
Australian international Mooy had a near-two-month layoff after suffering a MCL (medial collateral ligament) tear in his right knee, during a 1-0 defeat with Arsenal in December.
The injury setback also saw the 28-year old ruled out of the 2019 Asian Cup, where his Australia team departed at the quarter-final stage.
Huddersfield boss Siewert said: „It [Mooy’s return] is really important because he has such a big impact on the team and he is really dangerous on set-plays.
„It’s not easy after such a long time to come back and be directly involved within the game but he is developing more and more and every training session is bringing him closer.“
New recruit Karlan Grant arrived from Charlton Athletic for an undisclosed fee on Wednesday.
The 21-year old has scored 14 goals for the Addicks this season, which is one more than Huddersfield have scored in the Premier League so far this campaign.
Siewert added: „In Karlan, I see something that is very special and I am convinced he can help us.
„I think he showed in League One that he is able to score consistently and this is important for me. He was already scoring goals in training yesterday, which makes me really proud.“
Former Borussia Dortmund reserve team coach Siewert arrived at the John Smith’s Stadium last month with Huddersfield bottom of the division.
Nevertheless, Siewert insists that the club still has what it takes to avoid relegation, despite currently being 12 points adrift.
„I think there are reasons why we are at the bottom – you just have to look at our goals and we have scored 13 at the moment, so of course this is the reasons. But this is talking about the past, which I don’t want to do.“
