Tottenham need to enjoy Champions League semi-final vs Ajax, says Jamie O’Hara
Tottenham need to „enjoy“ their Champions League semi-final against Ajax, according to former Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara.
The club are playing in a European Cup semi-final for the first time since 1962 and have home advantage in the first leg on Tuesday.
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has already told his players to dream big with just two matches separating them from a place in the final in Madrid in June, and O’Hara believes Spurs will have too much for Ajax in their new stadium, despite losing at home to West Ham on Saturday.
Speaking on Sky Sports News he said: „They’re at home, they’ve been playing well at home.
„Apart from Saturday they’ve been playing well and they need to enjoy the occasion.
„It’s going to be a huge game for everyone involved and I think they just need to go there and enjoy it.
„It’s one of those games, it’s a one-off. If they were playing Barcelona they would be the complete underdogs.
„They’re thinking Ajax have knocked out Juventus and Real Madrid but Tottenham would still probably fancy themselves to beat them on the night.
„Ajax don’t really do too well against English clubs, we’ve seen that in the past and so it’s going to be a really interesting night.
„I fancy Tottenham, I think they’re going to win 2-1 but I think it’s going to be difficult to stop Ajax from scoring because they’re such a free-flowing team.“
O’Hara says Spurs are making big strides under Pochettino and he believes they could yet finish the season with their first trophy under the Argentine.
„It’s not just a trophy, it’s the biggest trophy you could possibly win at club level so if they win it it’s the ultimate prize,“ he added.
„I think what they’ve done so far as a club has been sensational. They’re in the new stadium now, they had a hiccup on Saturday, but Tottenham are growing and growing and growing.
„They need to make sure they get into the top four, that’s the biggest thing, and if they do well and get through against Ajax then it’s going to be an incredible season.“
