Bernardo Silva ‘very happy’ with Manchester City’s link to Ederson
New Manchester City signing Bernardo Silva has admitted he is „very happy“ with the club’s links to Benfica goalkeeper Ederson.
Sky sources understand Ederson is expected to have a medical at City on Tuesday, having arrived in Manchester on Monday for further talks ahead of a proposed move for a figure of £34.8m.
Silva, who became Pep Guardiola’s first signing of the summer when he joined for £43m from Monaco last week, spoke about the Brazilian stopper at a Portugal news conference on Tuesday.
„If it is confirmed that Ederson goes to Manchester City I’ll be very happy, because I know him very well,“ Silva said.
„I had the pleasure of sharing some moments at Benfica’s youth teams, although he is a year older than me. He is a great goalkeeper and if I can play with him in the next season I will be very happy.“
The 22-year-old midfielder has been a star for Monaco this season, notching 11 goals from 58 appearances in his side’s Ligue 1 title triumph and run to the semi-final of the Champions League.
Silva has earned 12 caps for Portugal to date, and singled out Guardiola as one of the main reasons for his transfer to City.
„Everyone knows the work that Guardiola did at Barcelona and Bayern and what he is doing at Manchester City,“ he added.
„He has always been a coach who pleased me with the way his teams play and also because of that I am very happy to have chosen Manchester City.
„I will continue to do what I have done, do my job in the best way possible, with all the effort.
„I think joining Manchester City was a big step in my career, it was a very important thing for me. Obviously, the season went well for me and I’m confident. I’m here to work like everyone else and try to help the Portugal team.“
