Joshua sets sights on unification bout
Joshua sets sights on unification bout. Anthony Joshua admits Tyson Fury is on his „hit list“ and he is ready for a heavyweight unification bout.
Speculation regarding a bout between the two Brits to crown an undisputed heavyweight king has been rife in recent months and a fight between the pair would be the biggest fight in years.
Joshua currently holds the IBF, IBO. WBA and WBO heavyweight titles after regaining the belts from Mexico’s Andy Ruiz in the pair’s rematch in Saudi Arabia last December.
WBC title holder Fury is the only man standing in AJ’s way of becoming the first heavyweight since Lennox Lewis in 1999 to unify the division.
The exact timings of when an undisputed bout will take place are uncertain as both fighters already have contracts to defend their titles.
Joshua is scheduled to face mandatory challenger Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev and Fury is in line to defend his WBC belt in a third clash with American rival Deontay Wilder.
Should both fighters hold onto their belts, Joshua is in no doubt about who he should face next.
„Undoubtedly the fight I want is Tyson Fury – he is holding something that I want, he’s on my hit list,“ he told The Sun.
„He says things about me all the time, there is so much back and forth. But Tyson Fury is only relevant the day me and him sign a contract to fight.
„He has done great things in boxing, but until the day we fight that is where it ends and I don’t have anything else to say about him. I really want the belt he holds and that is where I stand.“
