Aberdeen’s Niall McGinn has become the hero of the hour after helping a young fan stand up to bullies.
Seven-year-old Cameron was the Don’s mascot for the Scottish Premiership win over Motherwell on Saturday after his plight came to the Northern Irishman’s attention on social media.
The youngster had suffered so much at the hands of his tormentors he was ready to give up playing football and was even reluctant to go to school.
However, McGinn stepped in and, with the help of his club, invited him for a tour of Pittodrie as well as lead the team out for the game.
„You get a lot of messages about a lot of different things on Twitter but once I came across the tweet it really struck me,“ McGinn told Sky Sports News.
„I sent a tweet back and the response was massive so I asked the club to get the wee man to walk out with me for the game.
„It helped put a smile back on his face and hopefully give him the confidence to stand up to the bullies.
„I’ve seen a lot of videos of him playing and he is a talented young lad so for him to consider giving up football is a big, big shame.
„It’s important that if any young kid is being bullied then it should be exposed and if you think you are a victim of bullying then you should speak to your parents or teacher.
„There is always support out there for you and bullies will not win in the end.“
