Adrian Andreev successfully passed the first round of the Challenger Series clay tennis tournament in Genoa, Italy, with a prize fund of 148,625 euros. In a tense match that lasted two hours and 44 minutes, Andreev prevailed over Argentine qualifier Gennaro Alberto Olivieri with a score of 7:5, 3:6, 6:2. With this success, the Bulgarian tennis player secured 2,420 euros and eight points for the world
ranking, extending his winning streak to six consecutive matches. Last week, Andreev won his first title at the Challenger level in Porto, which further boosted his confidence.
The first set of the match was not easy for Andreev, who is currently ranked 261st in the world. His Argentinian opponent even got a chance to win the set, but the Bulgarian managed to fend off the break point and took the next two games on his serve, leveling the score at 5:5. Andreev then broke Olivieri’s serve to take a 6-5 lead and held onto his lead to end the set 7-5.
In the second set, Andreev struggled, losing his serve without winning a point, allowing Olivieri to level the score at 6-3. However, in the decisive third part, Andreev showed a higher level of play. After the two moved evenly to 2-2, the Bulgarian tennis player took control and won the next four games, including two breaks, ending the match on his first match point.
In the next round, Andreev will face the representative of the hosts, Giovanni Fonio, who occupies the 316th place in the world ranking.
