Bayer boss calls for courage
Bayer boss calls for courage. Bayer Leverkusen coach Peter Bosz has called for his players to be „brave“ as they prepare to host Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich on Saturday.
Bayern have been in formidable form under Hansi Flick, winning 14 of their last 15 league matches to open up a seven-point lead over Borussia Dortmund in the title race.
But Leverkusen have won their last two league meetings with the Bavarian giants, including a 2-1 victory in November’s reverse fixture, and they have plenty of motivation themselves.
Bosz’s men are involved in the battle for a top-four finish and Champions League football next season, and they have been boosted by the news that in-form forward Kai Havertz should be fit to play.
Highly-rated youngster Havertz limped off after scoring the only goal of Leverkusen’s win at Freiburg last time out but he is expected to line up against a Bayern side who thumped Fortuna Dusseldorf 5-0 in their most recent outing.
The Dutch coach has urged his team not to worry about their illustrious opponents, saying in his pre-match press conference. „In the run-up to a match, we are 95 per cent concerned with ourselves. We have to be brave and play our game.“
Asked about the possibility of completing a hat-trick of wins over Bayern, he said: „If it does happen, then we’ll have achieved something special.
„For me, it’s all about qualifying for the Champions League at the end of the season. And points against Bayern are always valuable for that target.“
