Brighton making a positive impact on the local community
This week is National Inclusion Week – set up to combat social isolation – and Premier League side Brighton are leading the way.
National Inclusion Week is aimed at making every-day inclusion an every-day reality – and Sky’s popular ‘My Icon’ series is back to mark the occasion.
Brighton’s main focus may be on the Premier League but the club also has many projects which are focused on the local community.

In total, the club has nine disability-specific teams and hosts football sessions for those with learning disabilities and Cerebral Palsy.
One of their newest teams is Brighton Amputee FC, who meet once a week for training and have even had players called up to the national side.
The team’s oldest player is 57-year-old Derek Gallagher, who lost his leg in an accident when he was a teenager.
He said: „I was 18 years old, and a piece of metal fell on top of it.
„I didn’t think I would be able to play sports again, let alone football.
„It has changed my life considerably – I had nothing really to look forward to.
„You have a bad week at work but you think, ‘Monday is here – let’s go and have a game of football’, and you put it behind you.“
