Denmark U21s vs England U21s preview: Euro build-up continues
England Under-21s continue their preparations for next summer’s European U21 Championship when they face Denmark in a friendly at the Blue Water Arena in Esbjerg on Tuesday (kick-off 5pm).
Aidy Boothroyd’s side beat Italy – next year’s hosts with San Marino – on Thursday and will be looking for another win ahead of Friday’s Euro 2019 draw in Bologna.
Jake Clarke-Salter and Ademola Lookman have withdrawn from the squad through injury, so Boothroyd has called up Bournemouth defender Jack Simpson for the first time.
Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored the winner when England Under-20s beat Venezuela 1-0 to claim the World Cup last year and said the Young Lions are prepared for what 2019 can throw at them.

England lost in the semi-finals to Germany on penalties at Euro 2017 and Calvert-Lewin feels the tournament is as big as the World Cup he won.
The 21-year-old said: „Yeah, of course. You have to look at the biggest trophy you can win through the age groups and this is the biggest one. This is what we are training for two years for, to try and compete and achieve the win, so it is the biggest one.
„If you look at the friendlies that we’re lining up, we’re looking to play against some top opposition to prepare us for next summer in the Euros.
„We’re confident in the ability that we’ve got in our squad and following finishing top of the group, so we’ll take confidence from that and look forward to the friendlies and preparing for the Euros in the summer.“
