Fabrizio Ravanelli joins Alessandro Del Piero at Star Sixes in London
Italian legend Fabrizio Ravanelli is the latest former international to confirm his place at the inaugural Star Sixes tournament this summer.
An icon in England following productive spells in front of goal with Middlesbrough and Derby County, Ravanelli will be linking up with his ex-Juventus team-mate Alessandro Del Piero for the six-a-side competition at The O2, live on Sky Sports from July 13 to 16.
Ravanelli will return to action for Italy, having made 22 international appearances for the Azzurri during a 19-year career that also included spells with Marseille, Lazio and hometown club Perugia.
‘The White Feather’, as he was fondly known, is yet another Champions League winner who will be playing at Star Sixes. He won the European Cup with Juve in 1996, alongside Del Piero, and scored in their victory over Ajax.
He becomes the fourth member of the Italy squad, which also includes ex-AC Milan goalkeeper Christian Abbiati and former Palermo midfielder Simone Barone, who was in the successful 2006 World Cup-winning squad with Del Piero.
The Azzurri’s opening game at The O2 will be a huge match-up with Brazil, who will have Rivaldo, Roberto Carlos and Gilberto Silva in their side, on July 13. China and Nigeria make up their Group B fixtures.
To be at Star Sixes to see all 12 nations in action and a galaxy of stars such as Steven Gerrard (England), Michael Ballack (Germany), Deco (Portugal), Carles Puyol (Spain) and Robert Pires (France), you can purchase tickets, starting at £30 adults and £10 children, at Ticketmaster or AXS.
