Gareth Southgate’s England squad will show loyalty to World Cup stars
Gareth Southgate will resist the temptation to call-up younger players and try to stick with the majority of his World Cup squad for England’s next international matches, Sky Sports News understands.
The England manager announces his squad on Thursday for the Nations League opener against Spain (September 8) and friendly at home to Switzerland (September 11) – both live on Sky Sports Football – with teenagers Phil Foden, Ryan Sessegnon and Jadon Sancho all linked with a call-up.

Foden, despite impressing in the Community Shield, has only come off the bench once in the league, Sessegnon was dropped for Fulham’s win on Sunday. Meanwhile, Sancho was a only substitute for Borussia Dortmund’s Bundesliga opener against RB Leipzig.
James Maddison has impressed at Leicester during his first Premier League appearances but the squad announcement may come too soon for the creative midfielder.
