Hearts boss Craig Levein wins Scottish Premiership manager of month award
Hearts boss Craig Levein has been named Scottish Premiership manager of the month for August.
Levein oversaw Hearts’ winning start to the season before he was taken to hospital at the end of the month following a heart scare.
He returned to the training ground last week and watched last weekend’s 1-0 win over Motherwell from the stand.
The result took Hearts five points clear of Celtic at the top of the table with five wins from their opening five games.
They will open up an eight-point gap if they beat Livingston on Saturday.
Speaking to Sky Sports News about the events of the last few weeks, Levein said: „It’s been interesting, the football has been fantastic. To win our first five matches is a great credit to everyone, the players and in particular the staff who I’ve had to lean quite heavily on in the last couple of weeks.“
Assistant manager Austin MacPhee took charge of the team while Levein was recovering and played his part in the club’s best start to a season since 2015-2016.
Levein was appointed manager at Tynecastle last August when he signed a three-year contract.
It is his second spell in the job having been in charge from 2000-2004.
He went onto Leicester and after three years as Scotland manager, Levein returned to Tynecastle in 2014 to become director of football.
Hearts finished sixth last season and have improved after Levein reshaped the squad during the summer.
