Jurgen Klopp wants Liverpool’s academy prospects to continue progress
Jurgen Klopp has urged Liverpool’s exciting pool of talent to continue to progress following a promising 2016/17 season for the Reds’ academy, which saw many youngsters make their professional first team debuts.
Trent Alexander-Arnold, 18, Ben Woodburn, 17, and Ovie Ejaria, 19, all made their Premier League debuts during the last campaign, whilst Harry Wilson, 20, made an appearance in the FA Cup and 17-year-old striker Rhian Brewster also impressed in Liverpool’s post-season friendly with Sydney FC.
Despite such achievements, Klopp has urged his promising youngsters not to rest on their laurels, and says they have to continue to work hard in order to fulfil their exciting potential.
„The boys did really well but they all have to improve,“ Klopp told the club’s official website. „They have to go from being really skilled kids to being players that you have to use. That’s the next step.
„Look at Rhian Brewster, everyone knows about his talent. It’s fantastic.
„Ben is a step ahead and someone like Trent is already another step ahead. It’s all cool and good for the future.“
Liverpool’s Under-23’s finished third in England’s top tier of academy football last season, ahead of the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham.
Klopp will be hoping the talented youngsters at Anfield will further improve during pre-season for the upcoming campaign, with Liverpool taking on Tranmere Rovers in a friendly on July 12.Soccer Accumulator Bonus
