Manchester City supporter in medically-induced coma after alleged attack at Schalke
The Manchester City fan injured in an alleged assault following their game against Schalke on Wednesday night is in a medically-induced coma and remains in a critical condition in hospital in Germany.
According to German Police, the 32-year-old man was attacked by two Schalke fans leaving the stadium, suffering a „massive brain injury“ having fallen to the ground.
The supporter was at the match with his mother, father and sister, having travelled as a family to watch the Champions League tie.
A member of City staff has stayed in Germany to support the fan and the club have sent a second person with a background in victim support to assist.
Speaking to the media for the first time since the incident, City boss Pep Guardiola said: „We knew the day after. It is terrible news. Our thoughts and our best wishes go to them [the fan and his family]. It was tough news.
„We had a spectacular game which everybody enjoys, but still these kind of things happen.
„Hopefully the police in Germany can sort that problem and the guy can get well as soon as possible.“
City have also confirmed that Schalke have been in touch to offer their own support and communication channels between the clubs are open.
