Messi unsure on Lautaro link-up. Lionel Messi has continued his praise of Lautaro Martinez but says he has „no idea“ whether Barcelona are planning a move for his international teammate.
Martinez joined Inter Milan from Argentinian outfit Racing Club for €22.7m at the beginning of the 2018-19 season and has steadily become a key figure for the Nerazzurri.
The striker scored six goals in 27 Serie A appearances last term but has taken his form to the next level this season, scoring 11 times in 22 league matches.
Martinez, who has played a key role alongside Romelu Lukaku in Antonio Conte’s attack, has played with Messi for Argentina’s national team.
The 22-year-old made his Albiceleste debut in 2018 and has already made an impact at international level, scoring nine goals in 17 matches including a hat-trick against Mexico in September.
Messi, who has notched an incredible 627 career goals for Barcelona, has been quick to praise Martinez with the Catalan giants reportedly poised to bid for him in the summer.
However, speaking to Barcelona-based sports magazine Mundo Deportivo, Messi revealed he is not sure if his international teammate will be joining him at Camp Nou next season.
„If I’m honest, I don’t know whether or not there have been negotiations for him. I have no idea,“ he said.
„As I have commented before, Lautaro is an impressive striker.
„He is a very complete forward. He’s strong, good at taking players on, he scores goals and knows how to protect the ball. But we’ll have to see what happens with him and other names that are being linked.“
