Neil Lennon is a ‘great fit’ to replace Brendan Rodgers at Celtic, says Jackie McNamara
Former Celtic captain Jackie McNamara believes Neil Lennon is a „great fit“ as a replacement for Brendan Rodgers until the end of the season.
Rodgers left Celtic on Tuesday despite the club being on course to complete a Treble-Treble, winning all three domestic trophies, in his first three seasons.
Celtic have replaced Rodgers with former manager Lennon until the end of the season.
While some supporters have been frustrated by Rodgers’ departure at this stage of the campaign, McNamara believes Celtic have acted smartly and quickly in appointing Lennon.
He told Sky Sports: „He loves the club. He enjoys the pressures that go with it. Like anyone else he’d love to still be playing but managing is the next best thing.
„In the circumstances of Brendan’s departure, it’s a great fit with Lennon coming back in to steady things until the end of the season and then see what happens.
„He’s got experience. He [Lennon] did well in Europe too. Something Brendan didn’t quite do. Long-term the board will look at it but I think it’s just about the short-term to make sure they cover for Brendan’s departure.“
Lennon won three league titles before leaving the club in 2014. He was also the last manager to take Celtic into the knockout stages of the Champions League.
Lennon could be in the dugout when Celtic play Hearts on Wednesday night, live on Sky Sports.
