Ole Gunnar Solskjaer backs Paul Scholes to succeed as manager
Manchester United caretaker head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has backed Paul Scholes to succeed in management after his former teammate was linked with the vacant position at Oldham.
Scholes said on Wednesday that there was „nothing to report“ in regard to the Oldham position, but Solskjaer,
who has won all seven of his games since taking over at Old Trafford, believes it would be a good appointment.
During his time out of the game Scholes has often been outspoken with his opinions, particularly those on Manchester United, and Solskjaer has warned that there could be a backlash as a result.
„It’s easier to speak loudly when you’re not in a job yourself,“ Solskjaer said.
„That will be great if Scholesy gets a job.“
„I think he’s someone that you’d want to learn from.“
Scholes has delved back into football as a co-owner of Salford City alongside his ‘Class of 92’ United teammates Gary and Phil Neville, Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt and most recently David Beckham, who bought a 10 per cent stake in the National League club earlier this week.
The Neville brothers were full of praise for the job Solskjaer has done at United since replacing Jose Mourinho in December and have backed him to land the full-time role come the end of the season.
„They’re not my mates, but I played with them so many years,“ Solskjaer said in response to the praise.
„I’m just doing my bit to (do what) I feel I could help the team and club here.“
