Paul Scholes favourite for Oldham manager’s job
Paul Scholes remains the favourite to replace Frankie Bunn as Oldham Athletic manager.
The former Manchester United midfielder has held talks with owner Abdallah Lemsagam and is considering an offer.
It was thought the Oldham chairman would return to the UK from Dubai on Monday but he is now not expected back until later in the week.
If Scholes does take charge, it is likely he will have to relinquish his role as co-owner of National League side Salford City.
Sky Sports News understands Oldham’s current caretaker-manager Pete Wild has been told he will once again lead the team for Saturday’s FA Cup fourth-round tie at Doncaster Rovers.
Oldham knocked out Premier League side Fulham in the third round.
Scholes is one of four candidates who the club spoke to about the job.
The 44-year-old is a boyhood Oldham fan and was also interviewed by the club for the manager’s job in October 2017 – when he missed out to Richie Wellens.
Oldham are 12th in Sky Bet League Two – five points outside the play-off places.
Scholes won 11 Premier League titles, three FA Cups and two Champions Leagues during his career at Manchester United.
