Queen of the South appoint Allan Johnston as manager
Queen of the South have appointed Allan Johnston as their new manager following the sacking of Gary Naysmith.
Naysmith’s departure was announced hours after Saturday’s 3-0 home defeat to Partick Thistle, whose win ensured the Glasgow side would not face a play-off.
Johnston begins his second spell in charge of the club with immediate effect and will oversee Monday’s training session ahead of Tuesday evening’s play-off tie away to Montrose.
The 45-year-old led Queen of the South to the Second Division title and Challenge Cup during the 2012/13 season in his previous spell in charge.
He has been out of management since parting company with Dunfermline Athletic in January, with the club seventh in the Championship.
Club chairman Billy Hewitson said „After taking the decision to relieve Gary of his duties it was vital that we moved quickly to put the new man in place.
„As a club we have a very important week ahead and his priority will be to lift the players and have them up for two games against Montrose as we aim to hold on to our Championship status.
„Allan is someone who knows the club and the division very well and we feel he is the ideal appointment“.
Sandy Clark will also be making a return to the management team as Johnston’s assistant.
