Rangers are back in league action after their Europa League exploits as they host St Johnstone on Sunday.
Steven Gerrard’s men earned an impressive 2-2 draw in Villarreal on Thursday night, coming close to registering their first ever away win against Spanish opposition late on before Scott Arfield saw a late chance saved.
But the former Liverpool captain is certain where his priorities lie as the club look to make up seven years of disparity on their Glasgow rivals come the end of the league campaign.
„Sunday, in my eyes, is more important than Villarreal,“ he said.
„I made it clear to the players when we came back after the international break, after the setback against Celtic, the league games are the priority.
„Obviously Villarreal was a very important game but for me the league is the priority.“
St Johnstone come into the game unbeaten since the opening day of the season, and manager Tommy Wright told the club’s website he believes his side can cause an upset at Ibrox.
„Steven obviously adds a lot of pulling power there,“ he said. „They’ve done incredibly well in Europe so we’re well aware that it will be a difficult game.
„I’ve said it all season so far – we just want to focus on ourselves and how we can impact the game – I know that if my players play to the best of their ability we can be a match for Rangers.“
