Swansea City’s Wilfried Bony could be heading to Qatar’s Al-Sadd
Swansea City are close to agreeing a deal to sell striker Wilfried Bony to Qatari club Al-Sadd, Sky Sports News understands.
The 30-year-old has only played seven times in 2018-19, scoring his sole goal in Swansea’s 3-2 defeat at Hull City just before Christmas.
Bony returned to Swansea in a £12m deal from Manchester City in August 2017 but missed most of the second half of last season and the start of this campaign after having knee surgery.
Sky Sports News understands Bony is Swansea’s highest paid player and the club would like to get him off their books to continue their on-field restructuring programme.
Bony was a regular scorer in his first spell at the Liberty Stadium, which started in the summer of 2013 and saw him score 34 goals across two seasons.
That form earned him a £25m move to City but he struggled with injury and illness during his time at the Etihad and became a fringe figure after Pep Guardiola’s arrival as manager.
He also had a spell on loan at Stoke City before returning to South Wales.
Al Sadd have finished runners up in the last two editions of the Qatar Stars League but are currently top of the 2018-19 table by two points from champions Al-Duhail as they look for a 14th domestic title.
Former Barcelona star Xavi and Atletico Madrid midfielder Gabi are two of Al Sadd’s overseas contingent of players.
