Tottenham must do better for Sanchez. Tottenham defender Davison Sanchez says the club must improve on their performances from this season.
It turned into a demolition derby as Dortmund recorded a memorable 4-0 success to narrow the gap on leaders Bayern to just a single point, although the Munich men will be aiming to extend their lead in Sunday’s visit to Hertha Berlin.
Dortmund were missing a number of key men with Emre Can, Axel Witsel and Marco Reus injured and Jadon Sancho only fit enough to start from the bench, but they totally outclassed Wagner’s visitors in a one-sided contest.
Erling Braut Haaland opened the scoring and Raphael Guerreiro doubled Dortmund’s advantage on the stroke of half time.
Wagner made two substitutions at the break but the game was as good as over three minutes later as Thorgan Hazard made it three and Guerreiro completed the rout.
After watching his side be outclassed by their rivals, Schalke boss Wagner, who spent time with BVB’s second team, said. „We did not show a good game and deservedly lost. Overall it was not brave enough.“
„We gave them too much freedom and space. Their goals could have been avoided. This team has a lot of potential, despite the result. I don’t want to start questioning that just because of today.“
While Dortmund cemented their place as Bayern’s main title rivals, Leipzig were unable to keep tabs on the top two, only drawing 1-1 at home to Freiburg.
Manuel Gulde’s fortuitous goal off his calf looked to have given Freiburg an unlikely victory but Yussuf Poulsen at least made sure Leipzig did not lose with an equaliser 13 minutes from time.
Post-game, Kevin Kampl was determined to stay positive in Leipzig’s fight for honours: „We want to finish as high as possible, and there are enough games left to get a lot of points.“
