Van de Beek given green light to go
Van de Beek given green light to go. Ajax chief executive Edwin van der Sar has confirmed the club will allow star midfielder Donny van de Beek to leave in the next transfer window but not on the cheap.
Dutch maestro van de Beek has become a key first-team player for Ajax since progressing through the club’s youth ranks. Making 175 appearances and scoring 41 goals since his debut in 2015.
The 23-year-old was part of the Ajax team who won the league and cup double in the 2018/19 season but grabbed the attention of the continent’s elite outfits after his displays in Europe.
After helping the club reach the final of the 2016/17 Europa League, in which they lost to Manchester United, a club now heavily linked to van de Beek, the midfielder was central to their run to the semi-finals of last season’s Champions League, in which they beat the likes of Real Madrid and Juventus.
Ajax have already seen starlets Frenkie de Jong and Mathijs de Ligt leave for Barcelona and Juventus respectively, while they agreed a deal worth £33.3million back in January for Hakim Ziyech to join Chelsea next season.

And, while former United shot-stopper van der Sar has conceded the club have agreed to let van de Beek leave this summer, he has ruled out letting the player leave for less than he is worth.
Speaking to Reuters, he said: „Last year we made verbal agreements with [Andre] Onana, [Nicolas] Tagliafico and Van de Beek to stay another season, and then we look to help each other and find the next step in their careers. Nothing has changed.
„There won’t be a 50 per cent discount. The clubs can forget about that.“
