Xhaka willing to ‘give everything for Arsenal’
Xhaka willing to ‘give everything for Arsenal’. Arsenal player Granit Xhaka claims he has put the stripping of the captaincy behind him and is fully committed to the Premier League club.
Swiss midfielder Xhaka started his career at Basel before moving to Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach, who he left for Arsenal in a £35million deal at the start of the 2016/17 season.
Xhaka was part of the Arsenal team who won the FA Cup that season and helped the club finish runners-up in the 2017/18 EFL Cup and 2018/19 Europa League. In which they lost 4-1 against Chelsea in the final in Baku.
He has become a first-team regular in the heart of the team’s midfield alongside the likes of Uruguayan Lucas Torreira. Having made 163 appearances in all competitions across the four seasons he has spent in north London.
Xhaka replaced departing Laurent Koscielny as Arsenal skipper at the start of the season but was stripped of the captaincy after responding badly to jeering from supporters when substituted against Crystal Palace in October
The 27-year-old has since been heavily linked with a move away from the club, with Bundesliga outfit Hertha Berlin a rumoured destination, but has regained a starting spot under Mikel Arteta.
And Xhaka insists he has put the events of last year behind him and is focused on helping Arsenal, who are through to the FA Cup quarter-finals and still in with a chance of a top-four finish this season.
„The subject is closed for me. Maybe it was also a misunderstanding, and both sides overreacted a bit.
„The fans can be sure that I always go beyond my limits and give everything for Arsenal.“
