Daniel Arzani out for season after suffering knee injury in Celtic debut
Celtic and Australia striker Daniel Arzani has confirmed he needs surgery for a knee injury that will rule him out for the rest of the season.
The Iranian-born 19-year-old, currently on loan from Manchester City, went down clutching his knee 20 minutes into his first game for Brendan Rodgers’ side in the 5-0 win at Dundee last month.
Arzani, who impressed for Australia during this summer’s World Cup in Russia, will now miss their defence of the Asian Cup in the United Arab Emirates in January.
„I received the bad news today that I will indeed need an ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) Op ruling me out until next season,“ he wrote on Instagram.
„Apologies to the Celtic fans for my 20-minute cameo. This is, however, the beginning of my journey and I promise to be back better than ever. Day 1 road to recovery starts now.“
Football Federation Australia said it would „continue to liaise with Celtic and Daniel regarding his injury and rehabilitation and provide support, advice, and expertise however required“.
Arzani will join Eboue Kouassi in the Celtic treatment room, after he suffered a cruciate ligament injury in the 5-0 win over Hearts that also rules him out for the rest of the season.
