Eddie Howe focusing on Bournemouth positives despite stadium setback

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe is focusing on the positives, despite the club’s recent setback with stadium plans.

This week, Bournemouth admitted they had been „overly optimistic“ regarding plans to build a new stadium by 2020, with ideas now put on standby.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Friday, ahead of his side’s clash with Watford, Howe told Sky Sports of his disappointment at the news but an endless appreciation of what Bournemouth do have.
„It was the right decision for the shareholders and the directors and they have the right to do that, they’ve always acted so positively to the club and given the club so much.

„I know their will is to complete the stadium, to take the club forward and build the training ground. They want what every Bournemouth fan wants and what I want, but it’s not right at this moment in time for them.
„We would love a new stadium, really for the supporters it would be for them, to get more people here to watch their local team… but my mindset is to focus on what we do have rather than what we don’t have.

„Some clubs are focused on facilities first and the team second, here we focused on the team… we’ve moved forward and pushed every year to improve and that’s worked for us. Long term we all do hope we can build the club from the inside.“

Plans for a new training ground have also been placed on hold, which Howe admits is the biggest blow for him.

„That’s the one for me personally that we would love, the day-to-day environment, we’re always looking to help the players improve and be the best they can be. A bigger area to work in would be ideal for us but let’s focus on what we have – we do have a training ground and historically at this club we’ve never had one… yes it’s not the biggest in size, but we have everything we need, I’m not going to sit here and complain.“
Howe’s side travel to Vicarage Road on Saturday in hope of building upon their current seventh-placed standing in the Premier League.

Howe dismissed a ‘best of the rest’ tag for the Watford tie, while outlining the only focus currently is on points.

„We bounced back well in our last game against Crystal Palace and we’re looking to do the same again… the importance is to deliver another good performance.“

Howe has the majority of his squad available for the fixture. Charlie Daniels is still on the comeback from a knee injury, while Junior Stanislas is also working back to full fitness.
