Honesty the best policy for Lampard. Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has opened up on his managerial style and revealed the importance he places on being honest with his players.
Lampard cut his teeth as a manager at Derby last season, reaching the Championship playoff final, before taking over at Chelsea at the beginning of the 2019-20 campaign.
The Blues are fourth in the Premier League standings with nine games of the season still to play. Three points ahead of Manchester United and on course for Champions League football.
Lampard, who made 648 appearances in all competitions as a player for the Stamford Bridge outfit, has drawn praise for his style of play and his willingness to give Chelsea’s young players a chance to impress.
The former Blues midfielder won three Premier League titles as a player and also tasted Champions League glory when Chelsea beat Bayern Munich in the 2012 final.
He also enjoyed a long international career, earning 106 caps for England across a 15-year period.
Speaking to Chelsea magazine, the 41-year-old talked about his approach to management.
„I know that a manager is going to upset 10-15 of his players every week and make decisions that people are going to be unhappy about and scrutinise,“ he said.
„I try to see the bigger picture and think. If I can be honest and upfront with the players then the players will respect you in the end.
„That’s how I felt as a player and I certainly respected the managers who were up front with me, even if they were giving me bad news sometimes.“
