Nottingham Forest’s stadium lease extended as City Ground redevelopment edges closer
Nottingham Forest’s City Ground looks set to become the largest stadium in the East Midlands after the club’s lease on the historic ground was extended by the city council.
This extended lease means Forest are now able to proceed with ambitious plans to redevelop the City Ground which include a new 10,000 seat Main Stand, increasing the stadium’s capacity to over 38,000.
Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis said in a statement: „After more than a year of consultation, we are now delighted to be able to present you our vision for The New City Ground.
„The City Ground has iconic history and memories for our supporters and these legacies were fundamental in our decision for us to remain on the banks of the River Trent and not relocating to an alternative site.
„This is our home and we will remain here forever.“
The new Peter Taylor Stand will see the introduction of world-class facilities including a museum, a new club shop, a range of hospitality lounge options, and restaurants and executive boxes.
The Brian Clough and Bridgford Stands will also be improved as well as the Trentside area surrounding the stadium. New concourses will be created and there will also be improved facilities for supporters with disabilities, and a substantial increase in wheelchair spaces.
The City Ground has not undergone any major development work since 1994 and the Sky Bet Championship club are hopeful building work will commence at the end of the 2019/20 season.
Forest have enlisted the help of globally recognised architects Benoy for a project they describe as ‘born in Nottingham, designed in Nottingham, built in Nottingham, from and for the people of Nottingham’.
