Steven Davis refuses to rule out retiring at Rangers
Steven Davis has hinted he would like to end his career at Rangers after joining the club on an initial six-moth loan deal from Southampton.
The midfielder returned to Ibrox last week as Rangers completed a double raid on the Premier League, signing both Davis and 57-cap England international Jermain Defoe on loan deals.
Davis’ Southampton contract expires in the summer and the 34-year-old revealed he is open to extending his stay at Rangers beyond the end of the season.
Asked if he could see himself retiring at Rangers, Davis said: „Who knows? Football always throws up a few surprises.
„But hopefully beyond the six months everything will go well and then we can look at things and make it a longer-term thing.“
Davis spent four years as a Rangers player before joining Southampton in 2012, winning three league titles, three league cups and two Scottish Cups during his first spell at Ibrox.
The Northern Ireland captain said he did not think twice when it became apparent Rangers were interested in acquiring his services again.
„I had a tremendous time in here in the last period,“ Davis said.
„Nobody had to sell the club to me. I know what the club is all about.
„Obviously the opportunity to work with the manager as well was a big draw, but it was an easy decision for me once I found out there was a bit of interest from the club.
„This is the move I wanted to happen and I just want get back to playing football and enjoying football.“
