Steven Gerrard says Jurgen Klopp can attract top players to Liverpool
Steven Gerrard believes Jurgen Klopp has the ability to attract some of Europe’s top talent to Liverpool this summer.
The Reds are expected to spend heavily during the summer window as they prepare to fight on four fronts next season, with Southampton centre-back Virgil van Dijk and RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita among a number of players linked with a move to Anfield.
Former Liverpool captain Gerrard, who was recently appointed as the club’s new U18 manager, claims the Reds are now the perfect position to sign marquee players thanks to the magnetism of Klopp.
„It was strange,“ Gerrard told the Daily Mail. „If Jurgen Klopp had been at the club three or four years I believe I would have been part of him delivering big trophies.
„It’s how he makes you feel. I went to play in a friendly and felt like it was the World Cup final. We’re blessed to have him.“
Liverpool have struggled to hold on to some of their best players in recent years, with Fernando Torres, Xabi Alonso, Javier Mascherano and Luis Suarez all moving on to other clubs.
However, Gerrard insists Liverpool still remain an attractive prospect to foreign players..
„If I’m a top player and I get offered the chance to play for this club – and a world-class manager – I’d jump at it,“ he said.
